Megiddo is one of the most important cities in the ancient Near East. It was intensively and almost continuously inhabited for over six millennia, from the Neolithic period to the Hellenistic period. In Christian tradition Megiddo is a symbol of wars and conflict – Armageddon. Large-scale archaeological excavations have been conducted at Megiddo for more than one hundred years. The present book summarizes the history of Megiddo and its archaeological findings in clear and simple language.
David Ussishkin taught archaeology and ancient art for many years at Tel Aviv University until his retirement. For twenty years he was co-director of Tel Aviv University’s ongoing excavations at Tel Megiddo.
